Brendan Kelly ( Irish Breandán Ó Ceallaigh , born May 20, 1946 in Ballinakill , County Galway ) is an Irish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh .

Life

Kelly attended Craughwell National School and St. Mary's College from 1959 to 1964. He then moved to St. Patrick's College in Maynooth in 1964 , where he studied Roman Catholic theology . Kelly achieved a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Divinity . He then studied at University College Galway . On June 20, 1971 Kelly received by Bishop Michael Browne , the sacrament of the priesthood for the Diocese of Galway incardinated . Kelly later worked as a curate in Kinvara and taught from 1972 to 1980 at Coláiste Einde and from 1980 to 1986 at Our Lady's College in Gort . He was president of the college until 1995. In 1996 he went to France for a year in the Cuise-la-Motte parish as a chaplain and after his return he was pastor of Lisdoonvarna . From 2003 Kelly was pastor of the parish Spiddal and since 2005 vicar general in the diocese of Galway.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Kelly Bishop of Achonry on November 20, 2007 . On 27 January 2008, received by the Archbishop of Armagh , Seán Cardinal Brady , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Tuam , Michael Neary , and his predecessor, Bishop Thomas Flynn .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh on December 11, 2017 . The inauguration took place on February 11 of the following year.
