Martin Hayes (Bishop)

Martin Hayes (born October 24, 1959 in Two-Mile Borris , County Tipperary ) is an Irish clergyman and appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Kilmore .

Life

Martin Hayes attended the Brothers' School of Christian Schools in Thurles and the Accounting College in Limerick . Hayes then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Thurles. He received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Cashel-Emly on June 10, 1989 . Hayes was then sent to Rome for further studies , where he obtained a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas .

From 1991 to 2001 Martin Hayes taught philosophy and economics at Saint Patrick's College in Thurles. After a sabbatical and academic year, he became parish vicar in Thurles in 2002 . From 2007 to 2017, Martin Hayes was the administrator of the Assumption Cathedral in Thurles before becoming responsible for pastoral development in the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly and chairman of the diocesan pastoral council .

On June 29, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Kilmore.
