Michael Duignan (born July 15, 1970 in Rooskey , Bealnamulla , Athlone ) is an Irish clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Clonfert .

Life

Michael Duignan studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Elphin on July 17, 1994 from Bishop Dominic Joseph Conway, and obtained a licentiate in theology the following year .

From 1995 to 1997 he was active in parish pastoral care and then studied again at the Gregoriana, where he became a Dr. theol. received his doctorate . From 2002 to 2005 he taught theology and religious education at St. Angela's College in Sligo . Since 2008 he has been the diocesan director and since 2014 responsible for the permanent diaconate at national level . Since 2014 he has also been Diocesan Secretary, Chancellor of the Diocesan Curia and Episcopal Vicar for Education.

On July 16, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Clonfert. His predecessor, John Kirby , gave him episcopal ordination on October 13 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo , and the Archbishop of Tuam , Michael Neary .
