Dermot Pius Farrell (born November 22, 1954 in Castletown Geoghegan , County Westmeath ) is an Irish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Ossory .

Life

Dermot Pius Farrell studied at St. Patrick's College in Maynooth , where he earned a licentiate in Catholic theology. On June 7, 1980, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Meath .

Until 1985 he was chaplain at the cathedral of the diocese and then went to Rome for further studies. At the Pontifical Gregorian University , he was in dogmatic theology to Dr. theol. PhD . After returning home, he taught moral theology at St. Patrick's College in Maynooth. From 1993 to 1996 he was also vice president and then president of this college until 2007.

On June 6, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI awarded him the honorary title of papal honorary prelate . In the same year he became a pastor in Dunboyne . Since 2009 he was also vicar general of the diocese of Meath.

On January 3, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Ossory. The Archbishop of Dublin , Diarmuid Martin , ordained him episcopal on March 11th of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo , and the Bishop of Meath, Michael Smith .
