Séamus Freeman

Séamus Freeman SAC (born February 23, 1944 in Mullinahone ) is an Irish religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Ossory .

Life

After finishing school, Freeman studied Roman Catholic theology , became a member of the Pallottines in Thurles and made profession in 1965 . After completing his first degree, he was ordained a priest on June 12, 1971 . Freeman then studied psychology at the Catholic University of America . After studying in Rome , he returned to Thurles and over the years was promoted to the leadership of the Pallottines in Thurles. In 1992 he was elected General Rector (Superior General) of the Pallottines in Rome.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on September 14, 2007 Bishop of Ossory . On December 2nd of the same year, the Archbishop of Dublin , Diarmuid Martin , ordained him episcopal ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Ireland, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto , and his predecessor Laurence Forristal .

On July 29, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his resignation for health reasons.
