William Crean (born December 16, 1951 in Tralee , County Kerry , Ireland ) is an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Cloyne .

Life

William Crean is the son of Patrick and Margaret Crean (nee O'Donnell). Several priests emerged from the family . He received his first education in his hometown and birthplace Tralee and continued this at Saint Brendans College in Killarney . He then began at Saint Patrick's College in Maynooth to study Catholic theology and philosophy , which he completed with a bachelor's degree. As a result, he began postgraduate studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , where he obtained a licentiate in theology in 1977 .

He was ordained a priest on June 20, 1976 by the Bishop of Kerry , Eamon Casey . In 1987 he graduated from the Mount Oliver Institute of Education in Dundalk with a degree in religious education . After some pastoral work, he was appointed canon and was Director of Religious Adult Education in Killarney from 1987 to 1996. From 1998 to 1999 he studied Sunday School at the Weston School of Theology in Boston (STM). He was the chairman of the Adult Religious Education National Association (ARENA) for two years .

On November 24, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Cloyne. He received his episcopal ordination from the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland , Archbishop Charles Brown , on January 27, 2013; Co- consecrators were Dermot Clifford , Archbishop of Cashel and Emly , and William Murphy , Bishop of Kerry.
