Eamon Martin (born October 30, 1961 in Derry ) is Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland .

Life

Eamon Martin studied at the Derry Seminary and St. Patrick's College in Maynooth . He received on 28 June 1987, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1987 to 1989 he was curate at St. Eugen's Cathedral in Derry. From 1990 to 1998 he was a teacher in Derry. After completing postgraduate studies at Queen's University Belfast , he completed a master's degree at the University of Cambridge in 1998/99 . From 1999 to 2008 he was Dean and from 2010 General Secretary of the Irish Bishops' Conference . He was also Vicar General in the Diocese of Derry in 2010/11 . After Séamus Hegarty retired in 2011, he was appointed administrator of the diocese. In 2011 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed papal chaplain of honor ( monsignor ).

On January 18, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. to Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh . The Archbishop of Armagh , Seán Baptist Cardinal Brady , ordained him episcopal on April 21 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Charles John Brown , Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland , and Gerard Clifford , Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus in Armagh.

On September 8, 2014, Pope Francis accepted his predecessor's resignation and Martin became archbishop.
