Charles John Brown , commonly known as Charles J. Brown , (born October 13, 1959 in New York , USA ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and Diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Charles Brown first studied at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame , Indiana , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history . He then graduated from the University of Oxford the Master of Arts in Medieval Studies , at Saint Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers , New York , a Master in Catholic theology and the licentiate in Catholic theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome , where he also to Dr. theol. PhD in Sacraments Theology . On May 13, 1989, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of New York in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York . He then was chaplain in the parish of St. Brendan in the New York Bronx until 1991 .

In 1994 he entered the service of the Roman Curia and worked for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . On May 6, 2000, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ). In September 2009, William Joseph Cardinal Levada appointed him Assistant Secretary of the International Theological Commission .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 26, 2011 Titular Archbishop of Aquileia and Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland . The episcopal ordination received his Benedict XVI. on January 6, 2012 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB and Cardinal William Joseph Levada .

In 2013 he was appointed Grand Commander of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien and invested on May 18, 2013 by Seán Cardinal Brady , Grand Prior of the Order in Ireland.

Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Albania on March 9, 2017 .
