Thomas Gertler

Thomas Gertler SJ (born September 2, 1948 in Dingelstädt ) is a German Catholic theologian and former rector of the Sankt Georgen college in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Thomas Gertler grew up as the son of a doctor in Heiligenstadt in Eichsfeld . After graduating from high school , he entered the Jesuit order in Erfurt in 1967 and studied theology. In 1976 he was ordained a priest and was subsequently, among other things, student pastor in Leipzig and novice master of his order. With a thesis on the Christology of the Second Vatican Council , he received his doctorate in 1986 and taught dogmatics at the Erfurt seminary .

From 1995 to 2004, Father Gertler Regens was at the Saint Georgen seminary and then headed the Sankt Georgen college as rector until February 2009, which consists of the seminary and the philosophical-theological college.

Gertler has lived in Augsburg since 2009 and works for the Christian Life Community. Since 2012 he has also been a member of the online pastoral care team of the German Jesuits.
