Life

Thomas Khamphan was born in 1925 near Pakse in the Lao part of French Indochina . In 1955 he was ordained a priest .

After the foreign priests had to leave the country as a result of the takeover of power by the Pathet Lao in 1975 , the vacant positions were filled by Laotians. Consequently, on July 10, 1975, at the age of 49, Khamphan was appointed vicar of Paksé and titular bishop of Semina , with episcopal ordination a month later. The episcopal ordination donated Thomas Nantha , vicar of Vientiane , co-consecrators were the retired vicars Etienne-Auguste-Germain Loosdregt and Jean-Pierre Urkia .

Two weeks after his ordination, Thomas Khamphan himself consecrated Jean-Baptiste Outhay Thepmany , Vicar of Savannakhet , as bishop; 1997 also his successor Jean Sommeng Vorachak .

In October 2000 he resigned from his position for reasons of age and was succeeded by Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun . Thomas Khamphan died on July 26, 2001 at the age of 75.
