Thomas Leander

Thomas Leander (* 1960 in Düsseldorf ) is a German pianist and university professor.

Life

Thomas Leander grew up as the son of an opera singer in Düsseldorf and came into contact with classical music at an early age. He was trained at the universities in Düsseldorf, Vienna and London and passed his concert exam with honors. In 1984 the city of Düsseldorf awarded him the Music Prize.

As a soloist he has given concerts in San Francisco , Washington , New York , London , Rome and Warsaw . He played at La Scala in Milan , in the Cuvilliés Theater and Gasteig in Munich, in the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He played at music festivals in Verbier , Salzburg , the Rheinisches Musikfest and the Mozartiana Moscow. Thomas Leander was also engaged as a lied accompanist for Hermann Prey , Karl Ridderbusch , Robert Gambill and Mario Hoff .

Thomas Leander has been Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf since 1995, and has been Vice Rector since 2010 .

As the initiator of the “ Degenerate Music - Welcome to Germany ” project of the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and the band Die Toten Hosen , he and the band's musicians were awarded the Josef Neuberger Medal of the Jewish community in Düsseldorf in October 2014 .
