location

The church building is located in the center of the Liester housing estate on Ardennenstrasse, across from Geschwister-Scholl-Platz.

history

The Liester housing estate was not built until the 1950s and 1960s. So many people had already moved to Liester in the early 1960s that the responsible pastor of the Münsterbusch parish, Karl Scheidt, suggested building his own church and setting up his own pastoral care district. A church building association was founded on October 1, 1964 and on June 1, 1965, Liester was raised to a vicarie from parts of the parishes of Münsterbusch, Büsbach and St. Lucia Stolberg.

The school auditorium was initially used as a church service room from 1965, and construction of the church began just one year later. The foundation stone was laid in a solemn ceremony on May 8, 1966 and the following year, on December 19, 1967, the solemn church consecration and consecration took place. The Eschweiler architect Heinz Kaldenbach designed the plans for the construction of the new church .

The establishment of the parish vicarie took place on January 15, 1968, Liester finally became an independent parish on December 15, 1990. After almost 20 years of independence, the parish was dissolved on January 1, 2010 in the course of the restructuring measures of the diocese of Aachen and with the also dissolved parishes St. Sebastian Atsch , St. Franziskus Stolberg, St. Lucia Stolberg, Herz Jesu Münsterbusch, St. Josef Donnerberg and St. Mariä Himmelfahrt Stolberg-Mühle merged to form the new large parish St. Lucia Stolberg.
