Thomas Mandl (born February 7, 1979 in Eisenstadt ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

The goalkeeper began his career in the Burgenland regional league at ASKÖ Hirm, where he was the first goalkeeper at the age of 15. After good performance, SV Mattersburg knocked , where he played from 1994. In 1997 he moved to FK Austria Wien , but was awarded again to Mattersburg in spring 1999. The personal highlight of this guest performance at his old club was the election of the best goalkeeper of the BFV Indoor Masters . Back with the Viennese he was substitute goalkeeper for Franz Wohlfahrt . After Wohlfahrt's career came to an end, he was his successor with the Violets. After very good performances, he became the Austrian national goalkeeper.

Then came the setback in 2003. Austria signed Joey Didulica . At first he was able to prevail against the Australian, but after rough blunders the Burgenlander was relegated to number two. In January 2004 he accepted Sturm Graz's offer to get match practice again. Mandl was loaned out by the Grazers for half a year.

Thomas Mandl at FC Trenkwalder Admira Wacker

After a relegation battle with the blacks, it went to Switzerland to FC Basel . There, however, Mandl could not prevail against the Swiss national goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler , so that he was loaned from VfB Admira Wacker Mödling in the 2005/2006 season . After he lost the relegation battle with Admira, he rejected the second division and looked for a club. After the transfer was completed, he was without a contract. He had previously terminated the contract with Basel.

In mid-November 2006 Mandl was introduced as the new goalkeeper of the Italian fourth division club FC Nuorese , but in January 2007 he switched to the Austrian Regionalliga Ost for ASK Schwadorf . Mandl also remained loyal to the club after Richard Trenkwalder renamed ASK Schwadorf to FC Trenkwalder Admira Wacker Mödling and moved the club headquarters to Mödling. With Admira he reached the cup final in 2009, which however was lost 3-1 to Austria. In April 2010, the goalkeeper was on leave, but moved to the Bundesliga club LASK in summer 2010 . In the 2010/11 season, Mandl could not keep relegation with the LASK and was relegated to the first division with his club . After LASK was denied the license at the end of the following season, Mandl moved to First Vienna FC at the beginning of the 2012/2013 season . When Vienna was relegated at the end of the 2013/14 season, Mandl left the club and moved to the regional division ASV Draßburg , where he initially worked for one season as assistant coach and coach of the reserve team and has been guarding the goal since summer 2015. Thomas Mandl also works as a goalkeeper coach at the Burgenland Football Academy.

Mandl played 13 times in the Austrian national team .
