Thomas Rechentin (* 1963 in Nordenham ) is a German administrative lawyer and political official . Since December 2019 he has been head of the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior .

Life

Rechentin graduated from high school in 1982 and was then a temporary soldier in the German Armed Forces until 1985 . After leaving the German Armed Forces, he began studying law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen in 1985 , which he completed in 1990 with the first state examination in law. This was followed by a legal clerkship at the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court from 1990 to 1993 and the second state examination in 1993 before he joined the administrative service of the Free State of Saxony in the same year . There he worked in various positions and authorities, first in the Saxon State Chancellery (1993–2002), later in the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior (2002–2003), in the District Office of the Weißeritzkreis (2003–2007) and in the State Ministries for Environment and Agriculture (2008) as well as in Kultus (2008-2018) before returning to the State Ministry of the Interior in March 2018, where he acted as head of department.

In December 2018, Thomas Rechentin was appointed head of the municipal, building and housing sector in the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior by Minister of State Roland Wöller ( Kretschmer I cabinet ) . In addition to State Secretary Günther Schneider , who was responsible for the interior, he took over the management of the authorities. While Schneider retired as part of the formation of the Kretschmer II cabinet in December 2019, Rechentin became the ministry's head of office.

Rechentin is married and has one child.
