Thomas Rietzschel
Thomas Rietzschel (born 1951 near Dresden ) is a German journalist and writer.
Life
Rietzschel studied German , history and philosophy in Leipzig . After completing his doctorate , he was a cultural correspondent for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung for a decade and a half . He published books on the cultural history of modernism, especially on the early 20th century , and traveled to their locations from Siberia to Brocken and from Ascona to Australia . For this he received the media prize of the East German Cultural Council Foundation in 1997 . Since 2002 he has been advising various cultural projects. He publishes in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Axis des Guten, among others . and lives near Frankfurt am Main .
In 2012 Rietzschel published the book The Hour of Dilettantes. How we allow ourselves to be swept away by examining fields of public life such as politics, economics, art, education and the entertainment industry and using current case studies to come to the conclusion that today's society is shaped by amateurs who wanted a lot but could only do little . Her motto is “learning by doing” or “everyone is an artist”. They did not act against their better judgment, but were simply clueless, but permeated by the importance of their role in which they lived "like the mime on stage". Henryk M. Broder called it in the world
“A book that has been waiting to be written. And Rietzschel [...] is the author who had to write it. An Ossi who has kept a clear view of reality in both directions and who does not want to follow either the Politburo or the Secretary General of any party when they claim that two times two could possibly result in five. "
In 2014 Rietzschel wrote the book Plundered Democracy: The Business of the Political Cartel , in which he describes Germany as being plundered by parties that are no longer representatives of the people, but have developed into commercialized companies that invent their own tasks and the people as the executor of these tasks. The citizens' disenchantment with politics is the result of the disappointment of paid professional politicians who only governed for self-preservation instead of representing their people according to the enlightened ideal out of commitment. Instead of arguments and sustainable concepts, it is only about "maintaining power and ritualized political theater". Citizens themselves have become for sale, bread is more important to them than freedom and their own existence is more important than the welfare of the community.
