Thomas Saunders Gholson

Thomas Saunders Gholson (born December 9, 1810 in Gholsonville , Virginia , † December 12, 1868 in Savannah , Georgia ) was an American lawyer and politician . The Congressman James Gholson (1798-1848) was his brother and Congressman Thomas Gholson (1780-1816), his uncle and father in law. The governor of the Washington Territory Richard D. Gholson (1804-1862) was his second cousin.

Career

Thomas Saunders Gholson was born in Brunswick County about two years before the outbreak of the British-American War . Nothing is known about his youth. At one point he studied law and then began practicing law after receiving his license. Between 1859 and 1863 he held the office of judge in Virginia. In 1863 he was elected to the Second Confederate Congress, where he served from 1864 until the end of the Confederation in 1865. He probably resumed his work as a lawyer after the end of the civil war . He died in Savannah, Chatham County in 1868 and was then buried in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia.
