Thomas Thynne, 5th Marquess of Bath
Thomas Henry Thynne, 5th Marquess of Bath KG CB (born July 15, 1862 in London , † June 9, 1946 ) was a British nobleman and politician.
Thomas Thynne came from the Thynne family and was the eldest son of John Thynne, 4th Marquess of Bath and Frances Vesey. As a title heir, he held the courtesy title Viscount Weymouth and attended Eton College . He then studied at Balliol College , Oxford , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1886 and a master's degree in 1888 .
In the general election of 1886 he was elected as the Tories candidate for Frome . In the election of 1892 he was not re-elected, but in 1895 he ran again successfully for Frome. After his father's death in April 1896, he inherited his title, making him a member of the House of Lords and leaving the House of Commons . In 1904 he became Lord Lieutenant of Somerset , a position he held until his death. In 1905 he served in Arthur Balfour's administration as Under- Secretary of State for India , and from 1906 he was Chairman of Wiltshire County Council . In the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel, later he became honorary colonel of the Yeomanry and the Somerset Light Infantry . On March 14, 1917 he was in the Order of the Garter was added; he was companion of the Orders of the Bath and Knight of Justice of the Order of Saint John . From 1922 to 1923 he took over the post of Master of the Horse under Andrew Bonar Law , which is why he became a member of the Privy Council in 1922 .
Family and offspring
On April 19, 1890, he married Violet Caroline Mordaunt, the only child from the marriage of Sir Charles Mordaunt, 10th Baronet, and Harriet Sarah Moncreiffe. With her he had two sons and three daughters:

Since his eldest son John had died during the First World War, his second son Henry, who had already taken over the management of the family estates from 1928, inherited his titles.
