Thomas Walsh (politician)

Thomas Walsh ( Irish Tomás Breathnach ; * December 18, 1901 , † July 14, 1956 ) was an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil .

biography

Walsh, who was a farmer by profession , became a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) in 1943 and represented the agricultural group there until 1944. In 1948 he was elected as a candidate for Fianna Fáil to the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ), where he represented the interests of the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency until his death on July 14, 1956 .

After the Fianna Fáil's election victory, Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Éamon de Valera appointed him Minister of Agriculture on June 13, 1951. He held this office until the end of de Valera's term after the electoral defeat by the Fine Gael on June 2, 1954.
