Titular Archbishopric Serdica
Serdica ( Italian : Sardica ) is a titular archbishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
It goes back to an earlier (historical) bishopric in the ancient city of the same name, in which the imperial synod of Serdica was held in 342 with over 300 bishops from all over Europe. The failure of the council is seen as one of the causes of the division in the Christian church. Today's Sofia , the capital of Bulgaria , was built on the ruins of the ancient city . In today's city center were the forum of the ancient Serdica and the seat of the praetor , on the remains of which the " Cathedral Sweta Nedelja " was built around 1900 .
