Giuseppe Antonio Cardinal Ferretto (born March 9, 1899 in Rome , Italy ; † March 17, 1973 ibid) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Giuseppe Ferretto studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Rome . He received on 24 February 1923, the sacrament of the priesthood and, after further studies in 1926 lecturer at the Pontifical Athenaeum "De Propaganda Fide" . In addition to his teaching activities, he held the office of official in the Vicariate of Rome from 1929 to 1939 , from 1939 he worked as a trainee lawyer at the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature . From 1943 he performed various tasks with the Consistorial Congregation and with the Apostolic Signature .

Pope John XXIII appointed him in 1958 to Titular Archbishop of Serdica and donated to him on 27 December 1958 at St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were Girolamo Bartolomeo Bortignon OFMCap , Bishop of Padua , and Gioacchino Muccin (it) , Bishop of Belluno-Feltre . In 1959 Giuseppe Ferretto became secretary of the college of cardinals . On January 16, 1961, Pope John XXIII took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in the college of cardinals, on March 26 of the same year he was elevated to cardinal bishop of Sabina e Poggio Mirteto . Giuseppe Ferretto participated in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . From April 7, 1967 to March 1, 1973 he was a cardinal major penitentiary . He died in Rome on March 17, 1973.
