Alberto Bovone
Alberto Cardinal Bovone (born June 11, 1922 in Frugarolo , Province of Alessandria , Italy , † April 17, 1998 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Alberto Bovone received his theological and philosophical training in Alessandria , Turin and Rome. He received his doctorate to the doctor of canon law and received on 26 May 1945, the sacrament of Holy Orders . After two years as a parish chaplain in his home diocese , further studies followed, after which he entered the service of the Vatican . He worked for the Congregation Council and the Doctrine of the Faith of the Curia for many years . On January 23, 1967, Pope Paul VI awarded him . the title of House Prelate of His Holiness .
Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 5, 1984 titular Archbishop of Caesarea in Numidia and secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The episcopal ordination received Alberto Bovone on 12 May of the same by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger , the future Pope Benedict XVI .; Co - consecrators were the then pro-major penitentiary , Archbishop Luigi Dadaglio , and the Bishop of Alessandria , Ferdinando Maggioni . In 1995 Alberto Bovone became Pro- Prefect of the Congregation for the Canonizations . On February 21, 1998, Pope John Paul II accepted him as a cardinal deacon with the titular Ognissanti in Via Appia Nuova in the College of Cardinals , and two days later appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for Canonization.
Alberto Bovone died on April 17, 1998 in Rome and was buried in the cemetery of his birthplace, Frugarolo.
