The Roman Catholic Diocese of Alessandria ( lat. : Dioecesis Alexandrina Statiellorum , ital. : Diocese of Alessandria ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Alessandria .

history

The diocese of Alessandria was founded in 1175 by Pope Alexander III. built. In 1213 the diocese of Alessandria was dissolved. On April 15, 1405 the same was rebuilt by Pope Innocent VII .

In 1803 the diocese was dissolved again and the territory was annexed to the diocese of Casale Monferrato . On July 17, 1817, the diocese of Alessandria was re-established by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution Beati Petri .

The diocese is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Vercelli as a suffragan .
