Thor Listau (born June 3, 1938 in Svolvær , Nordland ; † March 22, 2014 ) was a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre , who was a member of the Storting for twelve years and fisheries minister in the Willoch government between 1981 and 1985 .

Life

Professional uses in the armed forces and local politicians

Listau, son of the fish feed producer Magnus Listau and the housewife Johanna Jakobsen, graduated from the army technical college for telecommunications technology between 1954 and 1958 and was then a sergeant and radio mechanic in the telecommunications company of the Northern Brigade of the Norwegian Army and then from 1960 to 1961 Assistant to the quartermaster in the telecommunications battalion in Trøndelag .

In 1961, after a short period of employment as a radio mechanic in the 3rd Dragoons regiment, he became a technician in the armed forces' test station in Kirkenes , where he rose one after the other until 1985 to the position of technical manager, operations manager and finally manager of the station. During this time, he completed an electronics course at the University of Denver in 1963 and from 1966 to 1970 various courses in training facilities of the Norwegian armed forces and some technical courses with the US Air Force .

Listau began his political career in the youth association of the conservative Høyre ( Unge Høyre ). After he was chairman of Unge Høyre in Kirkenes between 1965 and 1967, he was chairman of the youth organization of Høyre in Finnmark county from 1967 to 1969 .

Shortly thereafter, he began his involvement in local politics , where he was initially a member of the local council between 1967 and 1971 and a member of the local council of Sør-Varanger , a Norwegian municipality in Finnmark county bordering on Russia , from 1971 to 1975 . After leaving politics, Listau was chairman of the state power plants ( Statskraftverkene ) between 1985 and 1991 .
