Thoralf Plath

Thoralf Plath (born October 26, 1962 in Garz / Rügen ; † March 31, 2017 in Zelenogradsk ) was a German journalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Thoralf Plath grew up on the island of Rügen . He has been sailing since 1973 and took part in youth regattas in the Optimist class . After a traineeship at Nordkurier in Neubrandenburg , he got a permanent position at the daily newspaper and became an editor . Initially, he worked in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state policy department , later he became deputy editor-in-chief of the Western Pomerania regional editorial office in Demmin .

In 1995 he accompanied an aid transport to the Kalingrad region , where he met his future wife. In 1999 the two married and together bought a house in Zelenogradsk (Cranz).

Since 1997 he had reduced his work for the Nordkurier to a part-time position , lived alternately in Zelenogradsk and Loitz and reported from Kaliningrad and Riga as a freelance correspondent for the German Press Agency (dpa) and German-language print and online media. Among other things, he worked for Russia News from 2006 .

As an author and co-author, Thoralf Plath wrote several travel guides on cities and regions in the Baltic States and the former East Prussia .
