Thorsten Benkenstein

Thorsten Benkenstein (born June 1, 1968 in Bremen ) is a German trumpeter and flugelhorn player of modern jazz .

Live and act

Benkenstein, who initially received classical training on the trumpet, gained his first jazz experience at the age of 16 in a big band in Bremen . He studied classical trumpet with Bob Lanese and Don Jacoby at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . Since 1993 he has performed regularly with Bob Brookmeyer and his New Art Orchestra . He also played in the big bands of Al Porcino and Peter Herbolzheimer , in the Sunday Night Orchestra , the Concert Jazz Orchestra Vienna and the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra .

Between 1993 and 2005 he was a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra . Since 2005 he has been a member of the NDR Big Band , in which he acts as lead trumpeter. He can also be heard on the ninth album of the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble and on the debut album by Gansch & Roses . According to Tom Lord , he was involved in 63 recordings between 1986 and 2014. Together with the Viennese instrument maker Schagerl, he developed his own Périnet trumpet series.
