Tierra de Cameros

The Tierra de Cameros is a regional comarca within the autonomous region of La Rioja in the sub-region of Rioja Media in northern Spain .
geography
The total area of the comarca is approximately 855 km²; the area belonging to the poorly populated Serranía Celtibérica is only extremely sparsely populated with around 3,000 inhabitants. The average height above sea level is approx. 950 m ; the highest peaks are the Cerro Cebosa ( 1530 m ) and the Horquín ( 1585 m ). Two rivers ( Río Iregua and Río Leza ) flow through the area from south to north and flow east of Logroño into the Ebro .
history

Economy and Infrastructure
For centuries the people of the Cameros lived on their stony fields and gardens as self-sufficient ; The main role, however, was played by cattle breeding for the purpose of obtaining milk, cheese and meat or sausage. From the Middle Ages to the late 19th or early 20th century, the region, which had long been used as pasture, was home to a textile industry based on sheep's wool .
