Tillo (between 1964 and 2013 Aydınlar ) is a small town and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the southeast Anatolian province of Siirt . The town of Tillo is nine kilometers from Siirt.
geography
The district, formed in 1990, is located in the middle of the province and is its smallest district. It borders the Şirvan District in the north, the Central District (Merkez) in the south and the Pervari District in the east .
In the city of Tillo and three out of six villages (Çatılı, Dereyamaç and İkizbağlar) of the district, Arabic (Qeltu dialect of Iraqi Arabic ) is spoken as a rule , while Kurdish is spoken in the remaining three (Akyayla, Çınarlısu and Taşbalta).
The terrain of the district is mountainous. In the east, the Botan Çayı , which is dammed up here at the Alkumrusta dam, meanders through Tillo. The soil is calcareous and not necessarily suitable for agriculture, and the groundwater also contains a lot of lime and other salt compounds. The vegetation is dominated by steppe flora, small forests occur occasionally.
The district consists of the following six villages (Köy):
Village name | Residents 2018 |
---|---|
Akyayla | 650 |
Fersaf | 205 |
Hatrant | 337 |
İkizbağlar | 529 |
Sinep | 191 |
Taşbalta | 97 |
So on average each village has 335 inhabitants.
With a population density of 31.2 (inh. Per km²), the district reaches just half the provincial average (of 58). The urban population is 53.4%.
etymology
The name of the city Tillo is Semitic (Arabic or Aramaic) and means something like holy spirits and probably refers to the many holy tombs in Tillo. In 1964 the city was renamed Aydınlar, which means the educated . After a change in the law in 2013, places could apply for their former indigenous names again. In November 2013, Tillo officially became the city's name again.
