Tim Matavž (born January 13, 1989 in Šempeter pri Gorici ) is a Slovenian football player who was most recently under contract with Vitesse Arnhem . His preferred position is the storm.
Career
society
Matavž started his career at NK Bilje, where he played until 2004. He then played for the youth teams of ND Gorica for two years before being promoted to the professional squad in 2006. With ND Gorica he was Slovene runner-up in the 2006/07 season and took part in qualifying for the UEFA Cup in 2007. On August 30, 2007 Matavž moved to FC Groningen, where he signed a five-year contract. For the 2008/09 season Matavž was loaned to the second division team FC Emmen , but returned to Groningen during the winter break due to injury problems. In the 2009/10 season he was the top scorer of his team with 13 goals.
In July 2014, Matavž signed a five-year contract with Bundesliga club FC Augsburg . He wears the shirt with the number 23 on his back at FC Augsburg. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on August 29, 2014 when he headed in the 90th minute in the home game against Borussia Dortmund to make it 2: 3. On February 1, 2016, Matavž was awarded to Genoa FC until the end of the season. On August 30, 2016, 1. FC Nürnberg announced that Matavž had been signed on loan with immediate effect until the end of the 2016/2017 season.
National team
For the Slovenian U-21 national team, Matavž completed 17 games and scored six goals. For the World Cup qualifier against San Marino on August 12, 2009, Matavž was appointed to the Slovenian national football team, but was not used. He was appointed to the Slovenian squad for the 2010 World Cup and played his first international game on June 4, 2010 when he came on as a substitute for the preparatory game against New Zealand . At the World Cup, he came to a use when he was substituted on in the last group game against England .
