Timbaúba , officially Portuguese Município de Timbaúba , is a city in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco . It is located in the northeast of the state and 100 km from the capital Recife . As of July 1, 2018, the number of inhabitants was estimated to have declined to 50,956 people who call themselves timbaubenses (Timbaubens) and live on an area of around 293 km². As "Made in Timbaúba" the place became known for the production of hammocks and shoes .
The place was spun off from Itambé in 1879 and received self-administration rights. It is located in the biome of the northern coastal forest of the Mata Atlântica . The name is derived from the Tupí language and describes a species of tree that occurs frequently there.
