Timothy Hawker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Timothy Hawker (born May 8, 1980 ) is an American bocce player.

By giving birth before his lungs were fully functional, Hawker suffered from an insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain. This resulted in infantile cerebral palsy , which primarily affects his motor skills. Furthermore, Hawker is deaf and cannot speak, which means that he can only communicate using sign language.

When Hawker learned about the United Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association (now known as the National Disability Sports Alliance ) at the age of twelve , it was his first encounter with the sport of bocce. A year later the family had to move to Chicago because Hawker's father had been transferred there. Once there, Hawker joined the Windy City Warriors and started playing bocce, although he could barely hold the ball at the beginning. In his career as an athlete, Hawker has so far participated in the Paralympic Games three times .

By 2001 he attended Springfield High School in Holland , Ohio . He currently works for Lott Industries in Toledo , Ohio.
