Tina Flecken (born January 14, 1968 in Cologne ) is a German translator of literary works.

life and work

Tina Flecken completed a degree in Scandinavian , English and German language and literature in Cologne and studied the Icelandic language at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík from 1991 to 1993 with a DAAD scholarship . From 1997 to 2002 she worked as a publishing editor at Könemann Verlag in Cologne. She has been working as a freelance translator and editor since 2004 . She has translated narrative prose and poetry from Icelandic , Swedish and English into German , including numerous novels of contemporary Icelandic literature.

For the five-volume new translation of the Icelandic sagas , published by S. Fischer Verlag in 2011 , she transcribed the Vinlandsagas from Old Icelandic , which include The Saga of Eirík the Red ( Eiríks saga rauða ) and the Saga of the Greenlanders ( Grænlendinga saga ) , and wrote about them also the introduction. At the literary festival at Corvey Castle in September 2011, at which the newly translated Icelandic sagas were presented for the first time in staged readings, she was part of the international translators' forum that discussed experiences with the translation of medieval literature into the present.

Flecken is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ. She lives in Cologne.
