Martinus "Tini or Tiny" Johannes Wijnen (born June 16, 1930 in Nijmegen , Netherlands ; † February 3, 2000 in Denmark ) was a Dutch carom player in the cadre discipline , but also took part in the Pentathlon .

Career

Wijnen, the son of a forester, was a pool player and full-time bartender. He specialized in the disciplines Cadre 47/1, 47/2 and 71/2 as well as the Pentathlon . In May 1973 the twelve-time Dutch champion emigrated to Denmark, where he lived until his death in 2000. Since the mid / late 1970s, he also had Danish citizenship and played for Denmark in various European tournaments. On January 13, 1963 he won the Cadre 47/2 European Championship in Huelva, Spain . At world championships, Wijnen often had to be content with 4th place. His career ran parallel to that of Henk Scholte , who had "succeeded" Piet van de Pol , whereby both were competitors, but also encouraged each other. When Wijnen emigrated, Hans Vultink succeeded him and between 1972 and 1985 he was the most successful player in the Netherlands in the cadre.

His son René took part twice in the honorary class championship (1st division) in the 1980s. He presented a trophy made available by his father ("Tiny Wijnen Bokaal") while the latter was taking part in the European Championship in Murcia , Spain .

The now 64-year-old took part in the Three Cushion World Cup in Cairo in 1994 , finished second in the qualifying round, which meant he was in the final round of 32. There he was defeated by the stronger and significantly younger Paul Stroobants from Belgium in 3-0 sets. It was his last international tournament participation.
