Theiss Railway
The kk privileged Theiss Railway , Hungarian: Tisza vidéki vasút (TVV) was a railway company in Hungary . The company's railway area was east of the capital Budapest in the basin of the eponymous river Theiss (Tisza). It was nationalized in 1880.
history
The kk privileged Theiss Railway was founded in Vienna in 1856 . The company's capital totaled 16,535,000 guilders in 82,675 ordinary shares of 200 guilders each. In addition, the company issued 15,750 bonds with a value of 200 guilders each, which earned interest at 5 percent per year.
The company received the concession to build its lines from Czegled to Košice as well as to Arad and Großwardein on November 10, 1856. The construction of the concession lines proceeded rapidly. By 1860 the entire planned network had been put into operation. The Czegled – Szolnok line had already been built in 1847 by the Hungarian Central Railway (UZB), and it was bought by the Theiss Railway in 1857 through the kk privileged State Railway Company (StEG).
After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise and the creation of the ku k. Dual Monarchy in 1867, the company relocated to Budapest. In 1871 the Theiss Railway took over the management of the Arad-Temesvári Vasúttársaság (Arad-Temesvári Vasúttársaság), whose line in Arad was connected to the network of the Theiss Railway.
In 1880 the company was nationalized. Including the Mezőtúr - Szarvas line, which was recently opened , the total length of the route at that time was 606.129 kilometers. The company's shares were taken over by the Hungarian state for 490 kroner each, and the infrastructure and vehicles became the property of the Hungarian State Railways (MAV).
