Thomas Ray "Tom" Barnes (born September 5, 1959 in Fairfield , California ) is a former American bobsleigh athlete .
Barnes attended Caesar Rodney High School in Dover , Delaware , where he was active in football , basketball, and athletics . In 1983 he started bobsleigh. He was able to qualify for the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo . There he finished fifth in the four-man bobsleigh with his team-mates Joe Briski , Hal Hoye and Jeff Jost .
After the end of his active career in 1984, Barnes joined the US Air Force and was stationed in New York as a firefighter .
