Tom Friedman

Tom Friedman (* 1965 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American conceptual artist and sculptor . For his works of art he often uses everyday objects such as toothpicks or sugar cubes in geometric arrangements.

Life

Friedman graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design and illustration in 1988 . He then continued his studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago , where he earned a master's degree in sculpture in 1990 .

His first solo exhibitions followed the next year at Feature in New York City , at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem , North Carolina, and at the Rezac Gallery in Chicago. Since then he has u. a. also exhibited in London , Rome , Geneva and Tokyo . A retrospective of Friedman's work "Tom Friedman: The Epic In The Everyday" was held between 2000 and 2002 a. a. shown in Tokyo, Chicago, San Francisco and Aspen .

In 2000 Tom Friedman was nominated for the Hugo Boss Prize .

Friedman currently lives in Leverett , in western Massachusetts , surrounded by forests and overlooking a lake, in a house that he shares with his wife and three children. His works of art are created in this secluded, green and quiet place. Here he also composes music and writes books.
