Tom Geißler (born September 12, 1983 in Oschatz ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

In his youth, Geißler played for FSV Oschatz and VfB Leipzig . In 2000 he moved to FC Sachsen Leipzig , with whom he was promoted to the regional soccer league. In the winter break of the 2003/04 season, the second division Wacker Burghausen signed him .

In 2005, Geißler moved to Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 for 250,000 euros . Under coach Jürgen Klopp he made 15 appearances as a substitute - he was never on the starting line-up. The signing of Mimoun Azaouagh further decreased the chance of getting match practice in Mainz. Geissler was loaned to the second division FC Erzgebirge Aue for the 2006/07 season. In May 2007 he then signed a two-year contract with the Ore Mountains. He came on 24 missions in the 2007/08 season and finished a relegation rank with Aue at the end of the season. The relegation made his contract null and void.

He then moved to VfL Osnabrück for the 2008/09 season and remained in the second division. Here Geissler could not call up his full performance potential due to some injuries and only completed eight league games in which he scored one goal. Osnabrück finished third from bottom of the table at the end of the season and thus had to be relegated to SC Paderborn . Geißler was on the field in both games, both games were lost 1-0 and Osnabrück was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga.

He left Osnabrück during the summer break and joined the second division club TuS Koblenz . Geißler played 23 times for Koblenz in the 2009/10 season and was second to last in the table with the team. He rose for the third time in three years from the second division.

He left Koblenz and signed with regional league club RB Leipzig . He played 51 league games for RB Leipzig in two seasons and scored three goals. The announced promotion to the 3rd division was missed by a fourth and a third place in the table. After two years Geißler left Leipzig and joined the competitor of the Regionalliga Nordost FC Carl Zeiss Jena . In Jena he received a two-year contract. At the end of the 2012/13 season he reached second place in the table with 14 points behind RB Leipzig.

From summer 2015 he played at SSV Markranstädt in the Oberliga Süd of the NOFV . Geißler ended his active career in Markranstädt in the summer of 2016. Today the former professional footballer runs his own café in Leipzig.
