Tomas Ross , pseudonym of Willem Pieter Hogendoorn (born September 16, 1944 in Den Bommel , Goeree-Overflakkee municipality , Netherlands ) is a Dutch writer and screenwriter . He wrote over 40 detective novels, one of them together with Maj Sjöwall , a few others with Rinus Ferdinandusse , books for children and young people, scripts for television series and, together with Theo van Gogh, the script for the film The Sixth May . Some of his books also appeared in German translation.

Live and act

Tomas Ross was born in Den Bommel in 1944. His father was an employee of the Dutch domestic secret service (until 2002: BVD, now: AIVD ). Ross attended high school in The Hague . After graduating from high school, he studied anthropology at VU Amsterdam and at the School of Journalism in Utrecht . He received his PhD in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam in 1974.

After graduating, Ross worked as a journalist and for various human rights organizations. Ross has been a freelance writer and screenwriter since 1984. Tomas Ross is married; he has two daughters and one son.

Writing activity

In 1979 Ross wrote his first book Loch Ness - mythe of werkelijkheid ( Loch Ness - Myth or Reality ) under his real name Willem Pieter Hogendoorn. In it he examined the possibility for prehistoric animals to survive in habitats that are difficult to access , e.g. B. very deep in the water or in the jungle.

From 1980 he began to write thrillers under the pseudonym Tomas Ross .

Tomas Ross contributed significantly to the founding of Gouden Strop , which he himself won three times with his books: Bèta (1987), Koerier voor Sarajevo (1996), De zesde me (2003)

His serial novels about the riddle of the rings are kind of X-files for children. This television series is also quoted several times within the first volume. The imaginative hero Jaromir represents a kind of childlike Fox Mulder and his girlfriend Pauline represents the doubting Dana Scully . Speculations about lost civilizations, aliens, UFOs, Atlantis, and time travelers are hinted at. However, it remains to be seen whether they are perhaps just fantasy products from Jaromir. The first three volumes of the series have been translated into German. A fourth volume was published in 2012.
