Thomas Charlesworth "Tommy" Allsopp (born December 18, 1880 in Leicester , † March 7, 1919 in Norwich ) was an English football and cricketer .

Career

Allsopp joined Leicester Fosse in August 1899 , but had to wait until February 1901 for his Second Division debut . In 1902 Allsopp, who was used as a left winger, moved to Luton Town in the Southern Football League , two years later he returned to Leicester and played another 30 games for the club in the 1904/05 season. From 1905 he played with his move to Brighton & Hove Albion again in the Southern League, in 1907 he joined the league rivals Norwich City together with his strike partner Wally Smith . One of his most important goals scored the striker in the third round match in the FA Cup 1907/08 , when he contributed with a goal for Norwich to the 2-0 success against defending champions Sheffield Wednesday . In 1911, after 115 league appearances, his career at Norwich ended, where he was a regular penalty taker.

Allsopp was also a talented cricketer who played 36 first-class cricket games for Leicestershire County Cricket Club between 1903 and 1905 and one game for Marylebone Cricket Club in 1904 . After moving to Norwich, between 1909 and 1912 in the Minor Counties Cricket Championship for the Norfolk County Cricket Club another 27 games followed.

After the end of his footballing career, Allsopp took over the management of the Hero of Redan pub in Norwich in 1911 , where he was registered as the operator until 1916, after which he and his wife ran the City Arms pub, which was also located in Norwich .

During the First World War , Allsopp served in the Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment in France. In a unit that was responsible for construction and replenishment activities, he rose to the rank of sergeant . After the end of the war, Allsopp fell ill with the Spanish flu on the way back from France and died a week later on March 7, 1919 in Norwich. He was buried with military honors in Norwich Cemetery.
