Johann Strauss Ensemble

The Johann Strauss Ensemble , founded in 1985 as the Austrian Johann Strauss Ensemble by members of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz , is an Austrian chamber orchestra with its headquarters in Linz . The ensemble was founded by Erich Buchmann and mostly directed by Russell McGregor as a standing violinist . The Johann Strauss Ensemble gives concerts all year round, most of the instruments are double-cast, and there is no arbitrary change of musicians. In July 2018 Josef Herzer takes over the management.

repertoire

The musical repertoire includes the works of the Strauss family , Joseph Lanner and Franz Lehár as well as modern Viennese music. This is why the ensemble's repertoire also includes compositions by contemporary composers. The ensemble member Werner Steinmetz designed the second part of the CD Aus den Bergen as both conductor and composer . Ensemble member Manfred Kammerhofer also composes works that are in the repertoire of the Johann Strauss Ensemble. Especially in the program Du Donau, Du - Strauss further thought , which was also recorded, the ensemble plays works by u. a. Roland Neuwirth , Werner Pirchner , Guido Mancusi , Michael Radanovics . The program also includes three songs composed by Gerhard Rühm : In da Donau die Nixaln , Heit is da real Nebe , ... dar Wein, dar Wein, dar Wein . Since the 2014/2015 season of the Linz Musiktheater , the ensemble has given 4 concerts a year in the cycle Auf Flügeln des Gesanges , the respective program of which is in the context of the guest conductor or the invited singer. The guests all come from the ensemble of the Linz Music Theater.

Standing violinist and conductor

Russell McGregor took over from Alfred Pfleger as a standing violinist in 2004 and has been leading the ensemble on the standing violin ever since.
