The Toms Gruppen A / S is the largest Danish manufacturer of confectionery , based in Ballerup in Copenhagen .

history

Toms was founded in Copenhagen in 1924 by pharmacists Hans Trojel and Victor Hans Meyer . The name is derived from the first letters of their family names (Trojel and Meyer, Danish Trojel og Meyer). In 1925 it started its own production. The range initially comprised sweets , caramel and chewing gum , later chocolate was added.

In 1942, Toms was taken over by the entrepreneur Victor B. Strand. The development of the Toms Group began in 1954 by taking over the confectionery manufacturer Anthon Berg . Other acquisitions included Pingvin Lakritz in 1962, Galle & Jessen in 1971 and the Swedish Webes in 2002. In April 2012, the Bremen-based confectionery manufacturer Hachez including the Feodora brand was taken over.

Products

The Toms range primarily includes chocolate in the form of pralines, tablets, chocolate bars (including the Yankie Bar, which is very popular in Denmark) and pålæg chocolate . Numerous products are also offered under other brand names, including Anthon Berg (chocolate, marzipan ), Nellie Dellies ( wine gum and liquorice), Pingvin (liquorice), Ga-Jol (liquorice and chewing gum) and Spunk (liquorice).

Others

The factory and administration buildings in Ballerup, which they moved into in 1962, were designed by the well-known architect and designer Arne Jacobsen . The factory, which has been expanded several times, is Denmark's largest chocolate factory with a production of around 15,000 tons per year.
