Tonje Larsen (born January 26, 1975 in Tønsberg , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player . She last played at Larvik HK in the Norwegian Eliteserien. She now works as a handball trainer.
Career
The Norwegian, who plays in the middle back , began playing handball in her hometown of Tønsberg. Here they played for Tønsberg Turn and Tønsberg HK. Larsen later moved to Larvik HK, for whom she played until 1998. With Larvik, she won the Norwegian championship in 1996 and 1998. In the 1998/99 season, the Norwegian played for the Danish club Viborg HK , with which she won the Danish championship and the EHF Cup . After this season she returned to Larvik, where she won the championship in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2005 and 2008 , and won the EHF Champions League in 2011 . On December 5, 2013, Larsen announced her pregnancy. As a result, she paused until January 2015. Larsen then returned to the Larvik squad and ended her career after the 2014/15 season. From summer 2015 she worked as an assistant trainer at Larvik HK for two years. In addition, she trained the third division Larvik Turn together with Lene Rantala . In 2017 Larsen took over as coach from third division team Flint Tønsberg. Since August 2020 she has been working as an assistant trainer for the Norwegian national team.
Tonje Larsen completed 264 games for the Norwegian national handball team . With the Norwegian team, she became European champion in 1998 , 2008 and 2010 , and world champion in 1999 . She won the bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games . She won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games . She was part of the squad of her national association at the 2009 World Cup in China .
