Tony Maylam
Tony Maylam (born May 26, 1943 in London ) is a British film director and screenwriter , who became internationally known for films such as Night and Fog , Burning Vengeance and Split Second .
life and career
Tony Maylam, born in London in 1943, was first known at the beginning of the 1970s as a documentary filmmaker, among other things with sports and music documentaries, and later also as a director and screenwriter for feature films. He made his screen debut as a director for the cinema in 1979 with the literary film adaptation of the novel The Riddle of the Sandbank by the Irish writer Robert Erskine Childers . The British film with the German distribution title Bei Nacht und Nebel featured the actors Michael York , Jenny Agutter and Simon MacCorkindale . His second directorial work for international cinema followed in 1981 with the horror thriller Burning Vengeance produced by Harvey Weinstein with Brian Matthews and Leah Ayres in the leading roles.
After the two television films The Murders of Dorian Gray and Across the Lake in the 1980s, the action film Split Second with Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattrall followed in the early 1990s . In 2001 he directed the romantic thriller Phoenix Blue with Matt Bardock and Amanda Donohoe in the lead roles. After a series of video documentaries, he finally directed the independent action drama Journal of a Contract Killer in 2008 . The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival in the Best Feature Film category .
In addition to his work as a director and screenwriter, he also worked briefly as a producer at the beginning of his career, including for the music documentary Genesis: In Concert .
