Tony Schmidt (racing driver)

Tony Schmidt (born May 9, 1980 in Leipzig ) is a German racing driver .

Career

After Schmidt was active in karting in 1996 , Schmidt began his formula racing career in 1997 in the German Formula Renault , in which he finished third in his debut season. After finishing eighth in this series in 1998, a year later he again finished third in the overall standings. He also took part in some races of the German and Italian Formula 3 championship . In 2000, Schmidt put his main focus on the German Formula 3 championship and finished 15th overall. The following year Schmidt stayed in the German Formula 3 championship and improved to tenth place in the overall standings.

In 2002 , Schmidt switched to Formula 3000 for the German racing team PSM Racing Line . Schmidt failed to score points and was also beaten by his teammate, the Dane Nicolas Kiesa . In 2003 Schmidt stayed in Formula 3000 and switched to the Belgian team Astromega . The German managed to get points in a few races and at the end of the season he finished eleventh overall. In 2004 Schmidt tackled his third season in Formula 3000 and switched to the newly founded German racing team Ma-Con Engineering , where he formed a team with the experienced driver Tomáš Enge . He couldn't keep up with Narrow, but managed to get points again in a few races. At the end of the season he finished tenth overall.

After Schmidt had not found a cockpit for 2005, he ended his motorsport career.

Personal

Tony Schmidt's younger brother Mike Schmidt was also active as a racing driver.
