Torø is a small Danish island in the Little Belt , uninhabited since 2003 , two kilometers south of Assens . Since the 1990s, the Torøsund (the strait between Torø and Funen ) by changing flow conditions silted up , so that the island now has a connection to Funen. The 64-  hectare island belongs to the parish community ( Danish : Sogn ) Kærum Sogn , which belonged to Harde Båg Herred in what was then Odense Amt until 1970 , and from 1970 to Assens Municipality in what was then Fyns Amt . The latter merged with the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 in the "new" Assens municipality in the Syddanmark region .
