Torbjörn Erik Ek (born June 25, 1949 in Ljusdal , Gävleborgs län ; † August 18, 2010 ibid) was a Swedish football and bandy player . In the bandy he played 102 international matches and took part in six world championships.

career

Football career

Ek started playing soccer and bandy at the same time. In 1967 the striker made his debut in the men's team of Ljusdals IF , which was playing in the third division at the time . Under coach Jens Lindblom , he rose with the team in the second division . In the summer of 1971 he followed the trainer to AIK in the Allsvenskan , as he trained as a teacher at the Gymnastik- och Idrottshögskolan in Stockholm . He was denied a goal in eight games in his first season in the Swedish House of Lords, he celebrated his first goal in the first division on the first match day of the 1972 season in a 2-2 draw against Örgryte IS . During the season he scored seven goals this season. Also in the following season he was able to underline his scoring threat at the beginning, but from the middle of the season he was used as a defender.

After completing his training, he returned to Ljusdal in 1974, where he then worked as a teacher. In 1975 he briefly joined GIF Sundsvall and came to eight other assignments in the Allsvenskan. After his transfer to Västerås, he moved in 1975 to the then fourth division Skiljebo SK . After a short stay at Västerås SK , he ended his career at Färjestads BK and Grebbestads IF .

Bandy career

Ek started his bandy career at Ljusdals BK . Until 1975 he ran for the club in the Bandyallsvenskan and said goodbye to league rivals Västerås SK by winning the Swedish championship. Here he played until 1980 before he played for IFK Kungälv in the Swedish first division until 1987 .

In 1967 Ek won the World Youth Championship in Bandy. In 1970, 1972 and 1978 he was named Bandy Player of the Year .

After the active time

While he was still active in the Bandy, Ek took on the role of coach of the Kode IF soccer team . Between 1983 and 1987 he was in charge of the club. From 1986 he also worked as a player coach for the bandy team of IFK Kungälv. He then coached the Ale-Surte SK bandy team until 1991 . In 1993 he was briefly a Swedish bandynational trainer.

Until 1985 Ek worked as a teacher. He then went into business for himself with his own sports shop. Since 1987 he worked for the gaming company Svenska Spel and its predecessor Tipstjänst . In December 2009 Ek was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and in August of the next year Ek succumbed to the disease.
