The Torfkaute - Bannholz von Dornheim-Wolfskehlen is a nature reserve in the districts of Dornheim , Wolfskehlen and Büttelborn in the Groß-Gerau district in southern Hesse . It was expelled by ordinance of August 7, 1979.
location
The nature reserve is east of Dornheim and Wolfskehlen and about two kilometers west of Griesheim . It extends in a south-north direction along former river beds of the Altneckar . The area of the protected area is 149.8025 hectares. The nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary " Hessische Altneckarschlingen " (6217-403). In the middle area it overlaps with the FFH area "gravel pit near Weilerhof northeast of Wolfskehlen" (6117-310).
Protection purpose
With the protection, the near-natural quarry forests that occur in the well-preserved Altneckar bed are to be protected. They form the habitat for rare plant communities and numerous bird species.
