Torridge is a district in Devon , England , named after the River Torridge . The administrative seat is the city of Bideford ; other significant locations are Great Torrington , Hartland , Northam and Westward Ho! . The Torridge district is divided into 63 parishes and the unparished area of Lundy Island . Lundy Island represents the westernmost and northernmost land masses in the district.

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Boroughs of Bideford and Great Torrington, the Urban District Northam and the Rural Districts Bideford, Holsworthy and Torrington.
