Torsten Harmsen

Torsten Harmsen (* 1961 in East Berlin ) is a German journalist , columnist and writer .

Life

Torsten Harmsen learned the profession of typesetter . He took an evening course at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art , but then decided to become a journalist. He completed a journalism degree at the University of Leipzig , the central training facility for qualified journalists in the GDR. In September 1988 he became the local editor of the Berliner Zeitung and was soon responsible for his own sub-section for “Spiritual Life”. During the period of upheaval after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the site developed into a respected place for intellectual debate.

In the features section of the Berliner Zeitung, Torsten Harmsen was responsible for education and universities for years. As a lecturer, he taught the students in the master’s course in cultural journalism at the University of the Arts (UdK) and was in charge of the tt festival newspaper! a joint journalism project of the Berliner Festspiele (BFS), the Berliner Zeitung and the UdK cultural journalism course as part of the Berliner Theatertreffen.

In 2011 he moved to the science department. His texts can also be read in the Frankfurter Rundschau , the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung and the Berliner Kurier .

He writes weekly in the Berlin newspaper Glossen in his column "Harmsens Berlin"

Torsten Harmsen lives in Berlin-Köpenick , is married and has two daughters.

Books

In his book Papa alone at home ( Eichborn-Verlag , Frankfurt am Main, 2000) he dealt with everyday life with his two daughters in humorous stories. In his book Die Königskinder von Bärenburg (Eichborn-Verlag, 2003) he tells the story of the division of Germany as a modern fairy tale. The reason for this was the questions asked by his older daughter Laura, who was born on November 9, 1989, the day the Berlin Wall came down. His book Neulich was published in Berlin in spring 2018 . Curiosities from the capital city (be.bra verlag), a collection of his glosses in the Berliner Zeitung . With the lovingly ironic look of a native Berliners, he tells about his city, its inhabitants and the special features of Berlin. His book Der Mond ist ein Berliner (be.bra verlag) was published as a sequel in autumn 2019 .
