Totka Petrova

Totka Petrowa ( Bulgarian Тотка Петрова , English transcription Totka Petrova ; born December 17, 1956 in Jambol ) is a former Bulgarian middle-distance runner .

In 1977 she won over 800 m silver at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in San Sebastián and won over 800 m as well as over 1500 m at the Universiade and over 800 m at the Athletics World Cup in Düsseldorf .

In 1978 another silver medal followed at the European Indoor Championships in Milan . In the summer she won bronze at the European Athletics Championships in Prague over 1500 m and came fourth over 800 m.

When athletics World Cup 1979 in Montreal she came over 1500 meters to the finish first, but was disqualified when it was discovered that it recently in the Balkans play a positive effect on anabolic steroids tested had been.

The resulting ban for this violation of the doping regulations was reduced from 18 to eight months, so that they could start at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. However, she was eliminated over 800 m in the semi-finals and over 1500 m in the preliminary run.

She was Bulgarian champion over 800 m three times (1977, 1978, 1983), three times over 1500 m (1977, 1979, 1983) and once over 400 m (1978). She won national indoor titles in 1977 and 1978 over 800 m and in 1983 over 1500 m.
