Totora is a town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Totora is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Totora and the seat of the administration of the province of Carrasco . The village is located at an altitude of 2800  m on the upper reaches of the Río Sauces , which drains below Totora in a south-easterly direction to the Río Grande .

Totora is located in one of the high valleys of the Cordillera Oriental mountain range , which merges eastward into the Bolivian lowlands. The climate of the region is characterized by a typical daytime climate in which the temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.

The annual average temperature is 14 ° C, the monthly values ​​fluctuate between 11 ° C in June / July and 16 ° C in November / December (see climate diagram). The annual precipitation is 600 mm and falls mainly in the summer months from December to February with monthly values ​​of 100 to 125 mm; This contrasts with a dry season from May to October with monthly precipitation of less than 30 mm.

From Cochabamba the paved road Ruta 7 leads in a southeast direction for 149 kilometers to Epizana , from there the unpaved Ruta 5 branches off to the south and continues via Totora to Sucre and the Chilean border.
